Pros

No dress code, located in the heart of downtown Durham, office is a beautifully remodeled tobacco warehouse.

Cons

Measurement is not the place to work if you want to advance in your career. Employees are not recognized for good work, only reprimanded for mistakes. All computers have 1 GB of memory and all monitors are 17" CRT with the windows 2000 banner burned in; and there is no budget for any upgrades. There is no 401K matching and there are minimal holidays and sick days.

Advice to Management

Management should really look at why there is so much turnover. It costs more to constantly replace workers than it does to reward great work with promotions, COLA, and the occasional pat on the back .

Tradeoff: Atmosphere good, pay not so good.

    Pros

No strict dress code, no micromanagement from the supervisors. Be yourself and be relaxed as long as you do the job correctly. No bosses from h*ll; coworkers treat each other with respect. General atmosphere is good. People do not get fired without a good reason. Parking is adequate. Health insurance is provided. Supplemental forms of insurance can be purchased at low rates.

    Cons

Pay is fairly low. They don't give raises, only a minimal COLA. No promotion opportunities. Sick leave days are deficient; holidays are minimal.

    Advice to Management

If you want to retain quality employees and encourage loyalty and innovation, you will have to start rewarding such employees with raises. Currently, there is no incentive to do an outstanding job, or to stay if some other company offers better pay. Also, it is normal to give a day of sick leave per month...not less!

  2. Great company

    Pros

MI cares a whole lot about the community and its workers. Everyone is very nice and is always willing to help you out if you need it.

    Cons

The pay is not very good. Most of the workers are older, except in the IT department, which isn't necessarily a negative, unless you are looking for a younger atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

Offer competetive salaries to bring in younger workers
