I have been working at Mediacom Communications

Pros

Great benefits package, free cable/internet, most co-workers and lower level managers are typically friendly and attempt to help when asked

Cons

serious lack of product knowledge training.
serious lack of support and communication from members of management
unrealistic sales goals for new hires in the customer service department
no fuel allowance for field reps (gas used to drive from town to town is not paid for in some areas, up to that manager's discretion)
commission rates in certain sales departments are seriously underpaid.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember that while Mediacom may have started in the cable industry, it is now currently first and foremost a communications company. In order to be successful with your employees, please consider that to be successful in coaching, training and supporting your employees, you absolutely must have a positive communication line open every day. Not just with the potential customers, but also with your individual staff members. The new motto is "The power to simplify", Take that to heart. Simplify your job, by supporting your staff, communicating with your staff and compensating your staff. In return, your staff (or team) will remain positive upbeat and sales will increase because the team will actually like working for you and want to be successful for you. This will help increase their productivity and sales. Which will increase their paychecks, which will increase your's. Keep it simple...you have that power.

    Pros

Benefits would be the only thing.

    Cons

Training is fast and getting paid on commissions is horrible. Waiting on installs can take up to 6 months or more. Paperwork is ridiculous and everyone is so overworked they do not have the time to train you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try remembering what good sales is all about instead of promising the AE's the world and then holding back on those promises. You have good people that have been there for many years and they are walking away due to all the current roadblocks to success with this company.

Pay the least in support and maintenance of the system, they didn't even want to buy you a rainsuit yearly

I have been working at Mediacom Communications

    Pros

Work on your own. Vehicle is garaged at your house. Plenty of room for solving problems on your own. There is always another person's area available if you want to change(people quitting). You only see a supervisor when he is there to complain.

    Cons

No material support for the plant. Not provided the proper tools, they wouldn't buy lineman gloves for the protection of the lineman. Desk based managers, expect all repairs to be completed in 30 minutes. They don't want to give out more than a 3% raise every year so they scale back your appraisals. They always try to hire from outside. Lineman for Mediacom, make what a Data Technician makes for Time Warner. The health care is fully supported by the employee and the dental and the vision are just purchase discounts. All they want is numbers of customers and they don't support the quality work ethic. If you have one installer hooking up noisey houses to connect 10+ a day, you have mayhem, now with 10 installers being pushed to cut an install by 75%, you have a data package that is unmanageable. So management is happy as long as the number of modem customers keep paying their bills and the system is in the black. Almost no replacement of spliced out damaged cable in a system that is a stretched out 300 mhz system. They slide 20 year old refurbished equipment to the non-delaware systems. They only want to replace the rainsuits and coats when they have a new employee and don't purchase duck boots. They want you to work in the weather, but don't provide for it. When economics force them to pay more to new employees, they never increase the old employees salary, so you have to quit and go somewhere else for decent pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't lowball your new hires and don't go talking about "I can't believe they took that offer". Provide weather and safety protection to your employees. You are the only place with lineman and not proving lineman gloves to your employees. If an employee does a job in half the time of what it takes(that is until you fire him for bad work), check that job, don't make all your other employees do half way work too to make the time up. Get from behind a desk and learn what your employees are doing. I laugh that you now have the ones left that always were home before 5 and used to sleep in their trucks, as long as they told you that they had fixed a problem. That is why the system is down around your ears.
