Pros – Medtronic was a GREAT place to work and I would return in a heartbeat if there were some changes made to the management team. The customer focus was second to none, the technological advances within the company were way ahead of others in the industry and the benefits were excellent!
Cons – Internal talent overlooked because management team didn't want to deal with training their subordinates for growth opportunities. It became a common practice for every person in our department to be hired at a senior level so the management team didn't have to do any training - employee could "hit the door running". Of course, this often resulted in lower level employees having to train (or do the work) of the higher level, higher paid co-workers.
Advice to Senior Management – A great deal of work goes into succession planning and identifying "high potential" employees within the company. Management should truly focus on developing those employees in all divisions,not just R&D or Marketing employees. Get the directors involved in coaching employees in their development instead of expecting them to learn everything on the fly.
