This is not a bad company to work for, however, my opinion of individual departments and management is disappointing.

Current Employee - SALES CLERK in Kalamazoo, MI

I have been working at Meijer part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Seniority grows quickly due to high turnover rates. It is not difficult to switch departments or work on something else depending on what department you work in.

    Cons

A large amount of my paycheck went to union dues, which I never got to use. I was refused work when asking to come back during holiday break from my educational leave, and was let go via letter the next holiday season. I was never contacted about coming back to work during holidays. Extremely unprofessional to let a student on educational leave go via letter and refusing work. Maybe my union dues will be put to work now?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just because this is a job that can be considered appropriate for low income people, does not mean that employees should be treated like such. Egos run way too high in this company and it makes for a very tense work place.
