I worked at Meijer part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    The job is very easy.
Unions make sure that your atleast getting a small raise every so often.

    Cons

Managers are clueless in how to do instruct, motivate, or manage their employees.
    Unions take out weekly wages.
Management doesn't help wrong issues or resolve problems.
Corporate visited often, but only made issues worse.
    No career advancement.
Scheduling didn't ever make sense no matter how much I spoke with scheduling manager. Constant overlap of school/personal schedule every week, working night shift and then morning shift, off and on.

No training, no orientation, time consuming and repetitive

I worked at Meijer part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    -Nice coworkers.
    -Employment experience.
    -Good amount of hours.

    Cons

-I received only 2 or 3 hours of training and then I was put on my own. For about 2-4 weeks I had many issues which required me to get help from my shift leader and coworkers constantly. I had to hear them sigh for every problem I was never trained on. The only thing I was taught to do was bagging and scanning correctly. I was never taught the procedures of the job, what I can do on break and meal time, etc.
-There was no orientation. I had to learn everything that I would've learned from orientation from videos, the internet, and asking coworkers.
-The customers are rude and ridiculous.
-Seniority rules the store. One of the reasons I quit was because I missed seeing the sunlight the way I saw it after school. I never had time to do anything with my family.
-My breaks are not on time and I cannot turn my light off in my lane unless someone tells me to. I've had a shift lead laugh in my face when I asked when my break was. This should not happen. If my breaks are every 2 hours, do not make me wait 3 hours.
-No baggers. Coworkers bag for you if you're their friend if it's not busy. No backup when lines form.
-No chance to move up. You're a lowly cashier. That's all.
-Unions take money out of my paycheck each week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train us. I went to work for 2-4 weeks with no confidence whatsoever because I was never fully prepared. I now have a better job that trained me and gave me an orientation. I hear a lot of Meijer stores do not prepare you for the job. I've given customers deals that didn't need one before. If you want to lose money, keep on doing what you're doing. Let cashiers screw up.
