I worked at Memorial Hermann Healthcare full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

The work is very rewarding. I loved getting to be part of so many succesful patient experiences. It is also very helpful to be part of such a large healthcare system . . . it means there are many diverse job opportunities available.

Cons

The hours and physicians can be very demanding.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think it's like every company - most managers are very open to employee suggestions but there are some leaders that need to learn how important it is to appreciate their employees.

I have been working at Memorial Hermann Healthcare full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Opportunity for advancement, and room to move because they are all over Houston

    Cons

Politics, They are supposedly Magnet but nurse to pt. ratio is awful with 7:1 on Tele in some of their hospitals. with the pt. turnaround being fast you can end up with 9-10 pt.'s a day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

have better nurse to pt. pca to pt. ratios and maybe make it a rule for all units throughout their hospital system.

Great Hospital System for Clinical Staff - Not great for Human Resources

I have been working at Memorial Hermann Healthcare full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great reputation of the hospital, good branding, talented medical staff, innovative ideas and high standards. Large hospital system that can handle all of the needs that Houston may have. Great Trauma Center, great cancer center, and Life Flight is fantastic!

    Cons

Human Resource Leadership (HR Chiefs, Compensation, Employee Relations, Talent Acquisition, Benefits) are ineffective. We need a changing of the guard. Most of this leadership rules by fear and intimidation. Non clinical staff not recognized. High expectations, low rewards, low recognition. No real champion for Talent Acquisition or Human Resources. Middle management has high egos and no substance and can't train their employees because they don't have the skills anymore. HR Chiefs are passive aggressive. Morale is very low within Human Resources and turnover is insane. 360 reviews need to be done on HR leadership and TA Leadership, except Jim G.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please treat your HR employees better. These folks are on the front lines every day, hiring the great talent, trying to retain them. Ask your employees how they feel about their manager in a one on one. They will tell you. They won't tell you on an engagement survey, because they are afraid to. Please train your HR/TA managers on how to treat people with respect, and how to lead by example. Effective training will help with employee satisfaction scores. Don't tell your employees to "read a book" to learn something.
