    Pros

Stable company- they don’t appear to be going anywhere and they are often underestimated in the industry. Pay is above average overall for part-timers (great job for retirees or college students). Management pay looks low on paper, but since they compensate more in bonuses and pay hourly (including overtime) you’re paid at or above industry average. They promote anyone willing so those with little to no education or experience can move up in the company, if willing to relocate. Department Managers make 45-60k, GM’s make 100k+ easy. Finally, profit sharing is almost unheard of in retail for all employees and can pay pretty nicely once you have a few years of service in.

    Cons

It’s an odd company. You really can’t understand how odd it is until you work there. The company is all about the mighty dollar and wont hesitate whatsoever to put that in front of its employees. The bare minimum in health insurance, (carriers change annually), paid time off is laughable, no sick-time or bereavement- all because of the cost- not for the well being of its team members. Work-life balance is a non-existent concept here. The company promotes from within ONLY- which while on the surface it seems like a good policy, but often the result of this is unqualified managers with little education beyond high school and since no new ideas are ever brought in (ie- from other retailers) the culture and methods of the company become stale. In addition it creates a job vacuum and stores are often left scraping the bottom of the barrel for willing managers. That idea extends to the corporate staff, who appear to be constantly short staffed and overworked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your company is growing- you're going to have to get out of that "start-up lumberyard" mentality if you want to be respected in the industry.

I worked at Menards full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good people, opportunity to move up quickly with relocation, chance for bonuses, good informative self paced training programs for employees

    Cons

The hours were long, pay was barely average, the corporate office is Big Brother, some business practices were close to shady.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop micromanaging.
