I worked at Menards full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Most of your co-workers care about helping the new team members learn the job. There are chances to move up, if you're looking to advance. Helping people get the right things to finish their home projects can be a rewarding experience.

    Cons

If you are looking to advance, the company pushes very hard for you to move to other locations in order to do so. That can be a good thing, but if you're looking to stay in one area it is a big drawback. Also, many people only visit the home improvement store when something breaks, so it seemed like most customers were angry even before entering the store. Unfortunately, that means sales people have to deal with a lot of hostile guests. It can be a tough work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Department managers did a satisfactory job staying involved and dividing tasks for the sales team members. I would suggest for the store managers to get more involved with the team members as well. I know their role is primarily supervisory in nature. However, when store managers only speak to team members when something negative happens, it doesn't create much motivation for those team members to follow their lead.
