I have been working at Mentor Graphics

    Pros

Interesting areas to work on and flexible working hours. They focus on the quality of work being delivered and creativity in solving problems. Generally they don't promote 9 to 5 culture and are very supportive. You get to work with brilliant people who appreciate hard work.

    Cons

You will quite often find yourself in a situation where you have to deal with office politics and you'll be able to watch fights. Sometimes managers and/or seniors don't like each other so they bully the juniors to try to make the other manager's life hell. In my three years with the company, I've witnessed it all.

In some parts, they have put in ridiculous number of layers of management. While few managers are really good, most of them hardly do the job they are supposed to do or they are not appropriate for the position they are in, which has knock on effects when it comes to dealing with the problems inherent with that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize, compensate, and reward your hard workers and don't use the company policies as a framework to cover your incompetence.

Former Employee - Graduate Program in Grenoble (France)

I worked at Mentor Graphics part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

As graduate program, the benefice is generally good. The base salary is above the average. People there seemed friendly.

    Cons

As a graduate program, the training and developing of technical skills are really bad. It turned out that they don't have internal resources to train new junior employees, because the senior persons have their own engagement and are not paid to help certain junior person. Generosity does not work things out in the company. The training of employees largely depends on outside partner, but they always choose the cheapest one. Besides that, the people seemed friendly, while in reality there are a lot of politics and rivality. If you unlucky enough by choosing the bad team and management, you should be supposed to tolerate managers' and even some colleague's psychological manipulation over you. Generally, convincing is a word which does not exist at all in this company. The only thing they know is influencing and manipulation. These things broke normal and healthy relationships totally and yields bad collaboration. If they failed influencing you, they will start moral harassment. They inspect your private life and try to compete with you on no matter what you did in order to destruct you psychologically. Sometimes, they liked to guess your ideas instead of communicating which leads to bad interpretation. Manager trust always more the old employee than new employees. The communication with new employee was transferred by the third person, an elder employee. As the training and developing of junior employee are bad, young empire does not really feel competitive in work market after quiting the organization. It took me time to pick up my competence and aspiration. Young employee ask for resignation towards the manager, the manager simply approved and the employee quit the company just on the same day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should listen more to their employees and improve their own integrity. Good manager will never let an employee leave without making sure his future.
