I have been working at Mentor Graphics full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Stable job, great benefits. Good working environment and people in the team. Great sale force

Cons

Average to worse R&D.. Stagnate salary, small raise no room to grow, no new opportunities. Somewhat lazy working environment, Technology moving slowly and not listening to customer demand and hang on to old style of code writing. Unwilling to change and cooperate to other product lines within the same company to keep on the competitive edge.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be a bit more aggressive on R&D in Wilsonville who thinks they are god and can do anything such as ignoring customers not fixing bugs and not working on new product.

Stifling - too many "stayers" at this company

    Pros

Mentor provides a generous work environment, great pay and benefits. The job accommodates a healthy life outside work. Our group volunteers time to food banks and other good causes - a nice gesture.

    Cons

Bloated organization, complacent business culture, management is full of bluster. Many employees here are "stayers" whose goal is navigating the politics necessary to reach retirement. Many people work unproductive jobs and take advantage of a generous corporate culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're lucky Carl Icahn has grown passive in his old age.

Used to be better, more fun, profitable and exciting place to work. Just another company these days.

I have been working at Mentor Graphics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice environment, campus, offices. Reasonably stable.

    Cons

Getting to be just about the money. Losing sight of a balance between customers, shareholders and employees. Lately it's been all about the shareholders. When this balance gets out of whack, your company becomes, well, unbalanced. Ok for the very short term, but a smoothly functioning company looking out for the long term benefit of *al*l would be more prudent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Forget Carl, concentrating on quality product, satisfying customers and keeping your employees happy will take care of the stockholders automatically. Quit looking for the next 2% you can squeeze from somewhere. Greed will kill the golden goose.
