Great group of people, #1 or #2 in competitive space, perhaps a bit too 'next big thing' focused.

I have been working at Mercent full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Management is transparent, focused on people and fair.
Offices are large and open, though somewhat in no-man's-land between Fremont and SLU.
Great Friday lunches, catered, and Friday's at 4 'Cheer.'
BEST tool in the marketplace for Amazon feed management/repricing
BEST tool in the marketplace for Google Shopping.
Closely partnered with Google, Amazon and other top channel partners & client brands.
Engineering team is talented and driven, creating world-class software solutions for online retail.
Eric Best is a very exciting and driven CEO, as well as transparent and hard-working.

Cons

Prod/Dev cycle seems to operate in a bubble - without formal, working process for listening to users/clients.
HR is a bit overtasked, so it can take a bit of managing-up to get issues resolved.
it's been said here, but it's bears repeating: need strategic investment and focus on updating SAAS UI, and building-out all features needed to make users as efficient as they should be.
Integration, while powerful, needs more automated solutions and flexibility for ingesting client data.
Location is ambiguously between SLU and Fremont, yet it suffices.

    From the technical side...

I have been working at Mercent

    Pros

    Highly knowledgeable team
Strong quality control and testing team
Lots of opportunity to stay current on technologies that interest you
You can chose to specialize on UI, mid-tier, back-end, or else be more generalized
    Active participation in design
    Good personal/team responsibilities and recognition

Work/life balance is best of the places I've worked
    Minimal Crunch time
Flexible schedule / work from home 1-day week

    Neutral:
Benefits are adequate but not great
     - Pay is average for the area
     - No 401(k) match and minimal fund choices
     - Individual medical is decent, but limited family coverage

    Cons

Satisfaction in a bare minimum of functionality over a high quality set of features
Priority is adding new functionality while spending minimal time improving existing pages/features.
Not enough use is made of internal users
Large process separation between engineering and other non-technical teams

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Iterative cycles only work if you go back and actually iterate. There are a lot of existing pages/functionality that stall after the initial release. Give a higher priority to support and existing issues over adding new functionality (quality over quantity). Take advantage of the in-house users to guinea-pig new features before release.
