I have been working at Mercer

Pros

Good salary. Opportunities to work around the world. Flexible schedule. Good benefits.

Cons

Too many layers. The hierarchy and senior management structure is confusing at best and ineffective at its worst.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care you people. They are your greatest (and perhaps the only) asset.

I have been working at Mercer

    Pros

Bright colleagues, flexibility to do what's best for our clients, global network to tap into, a good brand name in the market

    Cons

An ever increasing focus by leadership on internal matter, work-life balance (even though it's a fact of life for consulting, Mercer doesn't do much to help), compensation that is more linked to tenure and your sales pitch to leadership than to results

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget how Mercer makes money -- focus on our clients! That doesn't mean selling -- it's means delivering better solutions in a cost-effective way.

    I worked at Mercer

    Pros

Great people-You're working with highly intelligent, ambitious, genuinely nice people!
Work/Life Balance-As long as you meet deadlines, work hours are flexible.
    Supportive lower-level management

    Cons

Senior Level Management-Drastic decisions and lack of good communication. One minute, they are spending tons of money on needless luxuries and then cutting entire offices the next minute.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make decisions based on performance, not politics. Look at long-term sustainability, instead of short-term profit cutting.
