I worked at Merck full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good money, benefits ok but have to pay a fair amount for them

    Cons

Bad climate all around, upper management looks for any reason to fire people, even if they are doing above average work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with the hourlies instead of treating them like slaves

I worked at Merck full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Large Company; good benefits; opportunity to learn new preocesses

    Cons

No opportunity for advancement; when Merck "took over Schering-Plough", they "laid" off extremely qualified people (including myself) without even being interviewed. Merck took their own employees over Schering-Plough employees who had more knowledge and better skill sets. Merck obviously is a very nasty company, that will resort to any means to get ahead. CEO Frazier should be ashamed of himself for driving a company in this manner.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Schering-Plough employees should have been kept in their jobs for at least one year after the "merger" before being evaluated and possibly eliminated from the workforce. This was a hostile takeover plain and simple; Schering employees never had a chance. Remember executives, someday you too will be in the same situation.
