Merck was a great place to start my career and learn a lot over the years.

I have been working at Merck

Pros

Good experience working in cross-functional teams. Good entry level experience. Some great people to work with for the most part.

Cons

High performers are not truly appreciated, external training is limited, and career advancement considerably delayed depending on your job responsibilities.

Advice to Management

Recent Significant changes has introduced limited growth opportunities, disengaged employees, and lack of good talent retention. Stop overloading your employees with too much work and managerial tasks under the guise of entrepreneurship. If expectations are such then compensation should be justly given.

    Pros

Pay, benefits, responsive to employment trends, positive culture, strong focus on diversity, great pride in science, very charismatic leaders

    Cons

Sometimes the culture felt a little stale, lots of adversity between different divisions (research, manufacturing, sales), incredibly, needlessly complex business processes especially re: HR policy/compensation, focus on litigation in recent years led to a lawyer becoming CEO which might seem odd for a pharma, but having interacted with Ken Frazier personally, the man is pretty brilliant. He could be a successful leader for just about any sort of company, I think.

    Advice to Management

Streamline & increased transparency, focus on science & research

    Pros

The money, benefits, and car are all very fair. Some of the drugs are very good. A lot of the reps are great people.

    Cons

Pretty much everything bad you ever heard about big pharmaceutical companies is true. You will be paid well, but there is not a lot else to be happy about.

    Advice to Management

I do not know where to start.
