    Pros

    Meritor has great people and some really interesting project work. Learning experiences will come from hands on project work. Co workers are all highly skilled.

    Cons

    There is no balance between work and home a usual week is 70 or more hours due to lack of administrative support and analyst roles. Quality issues are creating ongoing challenges and it appears that the new product pipeline is weak. The recent departures by several senior leaders without a view to the larger strategic plan is a concern. Formal training and mentoring is lacking as managers are stretched too thin and financial resources are limited.

    Pros

    In product development, I get to work on many different projects so the variety is very good. There are many good people who are willing to share knowledge because there is a vast history of products and field experience. This is a great place to learn about the heavy truck industry from vehicle dynamics, fatigue, design and manufacturing. The company makes a profit most years and shares the profit with employees.

    Cons

    The work life balance on the surface appears OK, however, if you don't work 7:00am-7:00pm don't plan on being promoted. Also if you are not willing to travel at the expense of family and personal life don't expect to have career gains. This rigid "old school" management style will hurt for the long run because it will be hard to attract and retain talent. There is very little formal product training and no tuition reinbursement. Management claims to have a SDP (Succession Development Program) however, this is rareley used at the lower levels. All projects are poorely planned and managed and it creates "emergencies" to the point were everything is super hot. This desensitizes the truely urgent issues. Upper Management takes on to many projects with-out regard of the personel to complete the projects. Most people are very stressed in the work place and to many mistakes occur and projects are never fully closed and documented. Too much politics and paperwork.

    Advice to Management

    Have clear goals and a long term vision and execute that vision. Spend more on R&D and reward innovation and invention. The old school management techniques and tired products must be reviewed and relentless change must occur.
