Pros

The hours were nice for a financial firm. 8:30 to 6:30 with an hr of lunch. The environment was not very cut throat as compared to other places. There were a lot of older workers who were willing to help understand.

Cons

Sometimes the promotion decisions were made on favoritism rather than ability. To move up faster you have to know someone a few levels up. Also, it is near impossible to talk to an MD, they are treated like gods, which leads to an environment where people are afraid to ask questions or raise concerns

Advice to Management

Reduce bureaucracy and create flatter org structures where an AVP would have access to the MD. Which will make people feel like they are making a difference and also give them a way to express their concerns to proper authorities.

Good training program Willingness of others in the office to help

    Cons

Working for BofA, not truly Merrill Eat what you kill

    Advice to Management

Find ways to increase the retention rate of younger PMD trainees, as this is a major concern of those looking for a job when they exit college that has security and an opportunity to grow over an extended period of time.

    Pros

Great people to work with, everybody was driven, hard working and intelligent. A great environment to learn and understand the financial industry.

    Cons

A lot of politics. You have to be extremely political and competitive to get ahead, even if that means you have to step on some toes....

    Advice to Management

Move away from the politics, focus on the actual work that is being done. Offer employees some room for growth.
