I worked at Merrill Lynch full-time (more than a year)

Pros

They pay a decent starting salary, they will sponsor you to get your licenses, wholesalers occasionally bring food during breakfasts and lunches. after getting licensed there other firms will hire you pretty easily

Cons

where to start? the trainee program is almost a 100% failure rate. the goals are impossible to hit. some of the senior advisors wont even talk to you or say good morning. terrible culture in the downtown office. one trainer told us to make a list of every person you have ever met then call them. yeah ok. managers expected you to "cold walk" literally walk into a business dressed in a suit in the heat of florida handing out business cards. redic.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

hire trainees to be on a team or dont hire them because they wont succeed

    Pros

Every financial tool imaginable and killer training.

    Cons

Commissions over advice. Isn't it ok to sell out of the market at times?

Very friendly work environment, but Politics still dominate the hiring process.

I worked at Merrill Lynch full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent company training and classes, very practical. The training is directly related to personal use and your job.

    Cons

The positions can be very stressful as the responsibility increases to cut cost. there is also some insecurity as company continues to down size.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The top Executives should also take the lead with Salary and Bonus cuts. Its seems the top survives by cutting off the bottom and middle level employees.
