I have been working at MetLife Alico full-time

    Pros

Employees are friendly, talented and professional. The client really does come first. After the Great East Japan Earthquake, payouts were made to policyholders despite clauses in the insurance contracts exempting the company from liability due to natural disasters.

    Cons

Management is too Japanese. Employees are evaluated on whether or not they work long hours, and women are automatically disqualified from management positions when they have spouses and/or children because they "cannot do the overtime". (In which automatic overtime means working full time to a manager.) Also, salaries are too low, but are comparable in Japan. Attendance at drinking parties, as well as the consumption of alcohol, are required in order to get a good review.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Kick out the middle managers, and replace with truly international managers. Even the Japanese managers with international experience are "Japanese". Set up new employee evaluation metrics that are merit-based.

    Positive Outlook
