I have been working at MetLife

Pros

Great chance for feedback from managament, 360 reviews are done as well. Working from home is generally speaking, fine for all groups , but some groups allow a very flexible work from home arrangement. My group allows approximately once or twice a month. My personal experience is that there are opportunities within your own department for career advancement but just like anywhere else, it all depends on how you play the game.

Cons

Departmental head not supportive of the group. Pay could be better. I've received raises for the past two years consistently but it all depends on how well you are rated. Employee morale is currently low as a result of the recent financial situation eveywhere and everyone knowing that there will be a round of layoffs in the end of October.

    Pros

MetLife is a very solid and safe company with 140 years of experience. The Compnay as a whole does its best at ensuring that it gives its employees the opportunity to build their career path. Working at MetLife will give you the knowledge that as long as you work hard, you will always have a job to go to. Through all the job and market fluctuations, MetLife has always done the best at holding steady wtih integrity.

MetLife is also very good at keeping current with worker trends, the virtual employee is their next direction where employees can work from home.

    Cons

It's not what you know.... Even though we are given the opportunities to grow and develope, the management sometimes overlooks the harder worker in favor of the more "flashy" worker. Given that the best opportunities are scarce, there is great competition for the better jobs. However there are plenty of lateral moves if you are not happy where you are at.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be fooled by fluff. Your hardest workers are usually too busy looking down and getting their work done and not as well versed at giving compliments and flattery. Don't ignore the quiet ones.

    Pros

Big company that's not going anywhere. Fair pay and benefits. Good opportunity for advancement provided you are well liked. Work life balance is ok, and depending on your manager, they can be very fair. Can work remotely although that seems to be in jeopardy right now. Location isn't too bad. Some smart people working there and the opportunity for productive teamwork is high (depending on whom you are working with). Most of the people (at a certain level) are good, friendly, caring people that are willing to help.

    Cons

Current Senior management basically clueless and care little for the worker bees. Cronyism is running rampant at Met. Worker morale is very low at this point and for good reason. Many jobs are being outsourced and people are scared for their livlihoods.
