Former Employee – worked at Meteor Games
Pros – The people there were great, some of the smartest, most creative and friendliest folks I've ever worked with. As a small company there is a lot of excitement over potential growth and a can-do attitude to get things done rather than struggle with moutains of red tape. For the most part there wasn't a lot of crunch time, or expectations for people to stay long hours to get their work done.
Cons – In 15 years I've worked at some of the largest games companies in the industry and without a doubt Meteor has the very worst executive team I've ever had the displeasure of working with. Absolutely no support, when minor problems are brought to their attention they are prone to point fingers and fire people rather than attempt to fix the issues. A paranoid atmosphere permeats the company with employess constantly stressing over who will be fired next without warning. Projects change on a whim withouth any consideration to efforts already put into them, and can result in terminations if the managers were not able to adequately read the minds of the executive team.
Advice to Senior Management – To heck with the management - Advice to anyone considering taking a postition here - do so with great care and caution. If you do accept a postition make sure your resume is constantly up to date and consider a jump to another company if there is a rash of firings. Keep in mind at all times that any disagreement with the executive team, even if it is to help save the company time and wasted effort, will result in eventual termination.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
