I have been working at Michaels Stores full-time (less than a year)

Pros

It's an inspiring place to work. You're constantly interacting with creative people that want to talk about their projects.

Cons

The has been company wide changes made and there are alot of employees that are very resistant. That same group seems to do quite a bit of gossiping about any newly hired folks. Claiming that these new co-workers stole their jobs.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate your goals clearly with fellow members of management. Otherwise they end up looking silly and uninformed.

    Pros

    can get time off whenever needed even with short notice, there are benefits for full time employees

    Cons

    very boring and tedious if working cash register

    I have been working at Michaels Stores part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Opportunities to advance - into management or even teaching classes.
    Discounts on products and classes.
    Great team and managers to work with (at least my location).

    If you care about your job, you will enjoy your job. I know there are days where I am completely frustrated, but my store manager listens and helps solve the issues. I know not every store is like this, and if I was doing review for the Lynnwood store I would prob. rate it 1 or 2 stars just because of the management.

    Cons

    Part time benefits are a joke.
    Never enough hours to really cover the store to give world class customer service.
    Not enough time to really train properly.
    Negative customers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Provide us with more hours to truly give world class customer service. It is hard to do this with 4 people working especially if it is busy and we are all on a register. That is the biggest complaint i hear from customers is that they cannot find anyone on the floor. This will also help prevent theft; we has so much walk out the door because there is not enough people to watch the product.

    Also provide more time to train associates and managers. I have been the P.T CEM for a year now, and there is still so much I do not know.
