I have been working at Michaels Stores part-time (less than an year)

Pros

Brought the possibility of employment to a small town with little job availability
New store location

Cons

Hired staff to fill new location in Ontario
Misled employees (60 of the 75) to believe they where permanent staff
Hired staff (sales associates) to build shelving and display merchandise
Gave no notice of termination to the 80% that were
Continually demoralized and insulted staff that ask questions
Gave no copies and denied requests for paperwork being signed by the new employees
Half hour orientations that are filled with great information, but with no way of accessing the information after the fact

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be upfront with employees and explain they are only needed prior to a new store opening
Send new employees home with copies of the paperwork they sign
The detail that is involved in planing how a new store is created is wonderful, but falls apart when management treat staff questions as a sign of "stupidity" (a word often used as a response)
Don't promote Michael's Cares, when store managers are clearly not on board

    I have been working at Michaels Stores (more than an year)

    Pros

    Staff are friendly and fun to work with
    Job duties are easy and there is little pressure to do your job
    Framing manager is fun and easy to work with.

    Cons

    Events Manager is two faced and can not be trusted. Twists your words around so she looks like a good guy when it's actually the other way around.
    Other manager is lazy and thinks only of herself, no one else matters especially when it comes to breaks, delegating work or doing more for the associates.

    District Manager - WATCH OUT. Horrible manager - will put you down and criticize everything in your store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Store manager - time to be a manager and make the other 2 do their job. They are both lazy, gossipy two faced evil managers.

    District Manager - learn how to deal with people. You are mean.

    I have been working at Michaels Stores

    Pros

    Can think of none at the current time.

    Cons

    They promote from within, only to reprimand the associate for poor performance within days. After lhe associate either quits or relinquishes their title, they find from corporate that their performance is actually well above average, sometimes number one in the region.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Empower your workers and treat all of the departments equally.
