Internal processes and politics hamper ability for business development and growth

Consider using company's software products to manage all aspects of the business existing tools are disparate and not well designed

    Good company for BI, but tough to grow there

    I worked at MicroStrategy

    Pros

    Technology is well developed and respected in the marketplace
    MSTR skills and knowledge are in demand
    Most other employees are fairly sharp
    Michael Saylor has a strong vision for the company's direction and they are investing heavily in the technology, staffing, and training

    Cons

    Poor communication from middle management - You will often have little or no insight toward your schedule or projects in the pipeline
    Most levels of managment are sales oriented, most have little/no experience with the software,BI, or project management
    Have to push for raises/promotions (Promotions to management from field consulting is almost non-existant)
    Projects are often poorly scoped and detailed
    Social apps push is confusing ...where is the push for agile BI to compete with Qlikview/Tableau/etc....?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Michael Saylor, the CEO, has a good vision for the company overall. Field consultants need to get better communication and collaboration with middle management on projects and clients

    Pros

    Excellent product, weak competition, strong potential for growth, vast marketplace, some very talented people with innovative ideas, strong competence in the technical ranks

    Cons

    Lack of management skill in the upper echelon for sales, marketing and operations. Poor strategic execution paralyzes what could be a top-notch company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Focus upon the core business, separate ventures that may be interesting and innovative but lack tangible profit potential; empower to those who understand what the market needs; learn to communicate with your customer and deliver upon your promise.
