Pros

Has great technology, a great visions where BI will go in the future.

Cons

Limited opportunities to grow in your career. "Career plans" are not followed. Salaries are not always in line with other equal jobs in the industry.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to your roots. Be the company you were, not where you are now. Growth is good, but not at the expense of your core values.

Good place to start, but leave after 2 years

I have been working at MicroStrategy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - For the most part, nice helpful people
    - Solid product and technology
    - Good place to start a career in BI or BIGDATA

    Cons

    - Very low glass ceiling
    - Performance is only rewarded with additional responsibilities - not extra pay and promotion
    - Sales Engineering Management is a complete and utter joke.
    - People who rise up through the ranks internally are often royally screwed, as their payrate is nowhere close to those with similar titles/responsibilities who come in from the outside
    - Ventures into areas with questionable short or long term financial return *cough* *social media* *cough* eat up expenses to the point where many people had to be laid off

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get realistic about the $$$ you pay your employees. DC/NOVA is a very high cost of living area where employers typically pay good salary. BI is a hot, booming field. Your pay simply does not reflect that. . Expect people to jump ship, or if they're too lazy to begin job hunting, expect them to begin to not care and just use MSTR to collect a paycheck. I already see a sharp decline in the effort people are willing to put into this company after the layoffs. Morale never really recovered after that.
