Overall, not a bad company

Pros

Work schedules and locations can be flexible.
Coworkers are very helpful - if the person you asked doesn't know the answer, s/he will often help you find someone that does know the answer. Initial product training gives good exposure to the product.

Cons

Company doesn't promote new positions to employees first. The way to know if positions are coming open is to monitor LinkedIn.
Cross country travel isn't factored into work schedules.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give existing employees a chance to move up / around. Factor crazy travel times into expected billing.

Good place to jump-start your career

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Tysons Corner, VA

    Pros

Casual, young and flexible environment. The location is ideal and the opportunity to learn and jump-start your career is there. The building itself is new and there is a really nice gym with free classes available. The company has a name that carries weight in the software and BI industry, so it looks good on the resume.

    Cons

Salaries and vertical movement definitely has a limit. Moving up isn't easy and, in certain areas, doesn't seem to have an existing pathway at all. Don't expect to get paid on the higher end of the scale in your field. The company is large, but is still growing... so the growing pains are relatively obvious in that organization and attention to employee needs is still lacking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the needs of your subordinates and help them reach their goals. Make sure to provide them a clear path for upward movement should they choose to go that direction. A stagnant position wears on one's psyche, regardless of whether they fully express that frustration or not. And don't just pat them on the back when they work really hard, as the extra work isn't just a 'favor' but an effort to get noticed and receive some sort of tangible compensation. Morale is far more important than many seem to realize and has the tendency to become viral whether good or bad.
