Losing Much of its Charm

Program Manager (Current Employee) Redmond, WA

Prosflexibility in work schedules, can take time off for appointments whithout punching a clock. Salary pays the bills

ConsVery political. A finance based company, not engineering. Hardware engineering is achieved by brute force and compromise on features/performance. Managers are a separate caste from individual contributor employees, keeping a high wall between the two cultures. Heavy workload - Need to put in 60-70 hours a week. Not efficient, not scalable.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop focusing so much onyour own careers and think about being a great manager

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

For PMs, too much process. But it depends a lot on the team/group. Some are much better.

Program Manager (Current Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than a year

Pros: As an employee, they treat you very well. They make a lot of effort to make you feel cared… Cons: Too many people that have been in the company for over 10 years. The company thinks it is great and celebrates it... I think it… Advice to Senior Management: Stop breaking everything into 50 teams, making each team "beg" the other team to do something for… Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company… More

Good company to start your career, but gets boring after a while

    Director (Current Employee) Redmond, WA

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than 10 years

Pros: Great mentoring and training model.. Has some awesome people working and some… Cons: As you rise up sometimes politics kills you. Once you know the system it is easy to beat… Advice to Senior Management: Fix that rating system and stop that stack ranking. I… Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend More
