Former Employee - Research Intern in Redmond, WA

I worked at Microsoft as an intern (less than an year)

Pros

- A lot of smart people around
- All cutting edge technologies
- High speed hardware availability
- Free coffee and drinks
- There are always people who are experts in your area of need
- Nice playground, and on-campus cafeteria

Cons

- No free lunch/ dinner.
- Very big company; so dependencies are large. Each department has their own priority. So, you have to stall your research until you hear back from the product team, which takes over a week sometimes.

Former Employee - Senior Program Manager in Redmond, WA

I worked at Microsoft full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Some really smart people work at Microsoft. Some divisions are great. Others not as much.

    Cons

There is far too much concern about what other "stakeholders" think.... soo many meetings that it takes forever to get anything done. The company rarely takes risks. Product reliability has gone done (just look at Internet Explorer).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut out the feature bloatware. Go back to basics. Keep things simple, fast, and easy to use.

Former Employee - Senior Software Development Engineer in Redmond, WA

I worked at Microsoft full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Nice compensation, great medical insurance.

    Cons

Forced curve at the review. If your manager doesn't care much about you, you are probably getting a very low score at the review.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the forced curve. Replace the CEO.
