High stress and expectations, but fun and challenging

Principal Program Manager (Current Employee) Seattle, WA

ProsLots of perks (free gear, best in class equipment), very smart peers. Innovation is encouraged. The ranks are filled with very smart people who live interesting lives.

ConsHigh stress and lots of politics. It can be quite difficult to advance once you reach the higher levels. Even with tens of billions in the bank, there is little sense of job security -- your project may be canceled at any time, and it is your responsibility to find an alternate work group or you are let go.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

The Best of Times, The Worst of Times

Senior Program Manager (Former Employee) Redmond, WA

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 10 years

Pros: Microsoft is a place with smart people, good pay and good benefits. It's a respectable… Cons: In two words: the culture and the management. Performance reviews have been honed to a system that pits people against each other like on Survivor… Advice to Senior Management: Get rid of Ballmer, break up the company, lose the review system and let the great people… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company… More
