Pros

Great people. Field positions offer great autonomy.

Cons

Company culture encourages taking big risks, but if you fail you pay the price.

Review system positions co-workers against each other. To succeed too much time is needed to play the political game instead of doing the work. Performance reviews are too heavily weighted on Managers opinions and peer feedback, not on the work. I would not work again in a company that had this type of review system.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the review system. It doesn't foster team work.

    - Agility of software development hindered by tools
    - People Managers should be seriously measured for people management

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

A lot of internal opportunities - if you don't like your current job/manager/project - you can make a change without leaving the company.
    Benefits are top-notch.
Compensation is finally (as of 2012) up to par with other big local players.

    Cons

Very uneven work/life balance across the company. A lot depends on a team, and a manager.
Review system (as of 2012) creates unhealthy rush to avoid getting the bottom 2 ratings (which 20% of the people HAVE to receive). It's next to impossible to go anywhere in the company with a bad rating.
