I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than 8 years

Pros

Lots of smart and nice people. Lots of new stuff to learn. Opportunity to have a big impact. Good salaries.

Cons

Fish starts to rot from its head. There are good teams - but most are in a dismal state, due to management (3 levels of hierarchy away from you) not having a clue about what's going on - or not even caring about it due to some twisted short-sighted incentive they have.

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pretty good pay and good benefits. Stability of working for one of world's largest companies. Work with a lot of smart people.

    Cons

Lots of meetings and lots of talking about things without always a lot of actually doing anything. Job satisfaction varies greatly from group to group.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on doing your core goals and business rather than being mediocre at everything. There's tons of room to eliminate unnecessary processes and layers of management that make doing one's job much harder and more time consuming.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

There are lots of opportunities to explore within the same company; each group works like a separate company, which is good if you want to experiment with different technologies.

    Cons

There are lots of politics. You will need to learn to navigate through it, or to find a way to avoid it altogether. People that get review are not only the brightest, but also the ones that can best communicate their talent/success.
