I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

breadth of technologies and markets one can work in, benefits, career potential, overall level/IQ of people working there, etc..

    Cons

the curve/stack ranking induce some poor behaviors (some times, not often) people more focus on saying the right thing that doing the right thing as early as when you get to level 64 or above.

    Advice to Management

stop bringing decisions to the top. create separate smaller business units and align compensation on these units' results. not MSFT all-up only.

  2. Good learning experience

I worked at Microsoft as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

As a vendor, I worked with a great team that treated both vendors and full timers with respect. Goals and expectations were clear.

    Cons

Too many meetings. The corporate culture is incredibly meeting happy. My co-workers and I would have to do work during meetings to actually be productive.

    Advice to Management

Upper management can seem detached to what the actual needs of the team are.
