Current Employee - Software Development Engineer II in Redmond, WA
Current Employee - Software Development Engineer II in Redmond, WA

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Great technical challenges
Good work life balance
Great perks and amenities
Good pay
Love the offices instead of cubicles

Cons

Too many managers and people who want to be one
One person does all the work and has probably 2to 3 people managing them
If you are lucky you will have a good manager who protects you from PMs and others.

Former Intern - Program Manager in Redmond, WA
Former Intern - Program Manager in Redmond, WA

I worked at Microsoft as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    * Working on products that millions of people use
    * Real responsibilities and power
    * Just about everyone is brilliant
    * Location, money, work/life balance were all amazing.
    * Intern program events are unbelievable.

    Cons

Redmond == Deadmond, you have to visit Seattle for anything fun
Seattle is pricey, but MS makes sure it's not a problem.
HR can be pretty bad to deal with - high turnover means you almost never talk to the same recruiter twice.
