I worked at Microsoft as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Employees are given the freedom to grow and learn more skills as well as advance in their career. Microsoft is always on the cutting edge of technology so the work environment is constantly changing to accommodate growth. It was a privilege and an honor to have the opportunity to work for such a highly regarded company.

    Cons

There are so many others competing for the chance to work at Microsoft, it is more difficult to find permanent employment there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps, consider contract employees who go above and beyond job requirements to show their dedication to their job and the best interest of the company.

Mostly good experience but limited work/life balance

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Compensation and benefits package is very good, although not as good as a few years ago. Flexible work schedule is helpful for those with families. Lots of smart individuals to work with.

    Cons

Limited resources (employees) to do the amount of work required. I easily spend 50-60 hours/week working, so the work/life balance is an issue. Many of the managers are not good people managers and have difficulty understanding the day-to-day issues of the employees who actually do the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much political infighting among teams. Managers need to have skills in managing people and not just projects.
