I worked at Microsoft

Pros

Good place to learn. Time flexibility. Good infra structure.

Cons

Microsoft Brazildoesn`t have junior opportunities, so if you are an intern the best option for you after the internship is to leave the company to work elsewhere.
Microsoft Brazil is to much scorecard driven, don`t have a good long term view and don`t have many independece from Microsoft Corp.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don`t lose young talents. Improve the emplyee satisfaction and work life balance.

    I worked at Microsoft

    Pros

Microsoft has great benefits, pays well and provides a challenging atmosphere. The right job with the right team can be fun as well as lucrative.

    Cons

Microsoft does not reward long term contributors the way it used to. Sacrifice your career, to do the right thing for your customer or the right thing as a professional will bite you in your review.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean the pond. Go back to the things that made Microsoft a truly great company and reward those who invest their lives for your bottom line.

I have been working at Microsoft

    Pros

Developing software with a large effect on the world. Millions of people using your code every day.

Great coworkers. Smart, friendly. Very few we'd be better off without.

Amazing benefits. Great pay and bonus package.

Passionate internal community. Lots of great beta testers that care.

    Cons

    Work/life balance.

Top leaders have no vision for the future. Successful teams are making things up as they go, which makes it difficult for products built by different teams to work well together.

Lack of company commitment and culture around engineering agility. There are no good excuses for taking years to ship a product.

The annual review model destroys sustained efforts over a year. Employees will take on an important goal for a year, get credit for it in a review, then move on. From an external customer's perspective, it makes no sense why successful efforts are being stopped.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clarify the communicated vision that the company should be chasing. Stick with it.

Every year, SteveB's priorities for the company change. From an employee's perspective, senior MSFT leadership appears to just be reacting to industry trends, without any role in defining them.

Also, grow a spine and stick up for customers if you want to succeed. Apple pushes back on industry partners that are hurting customers. MSFT never takes the customers' side. For example, the transition away from DRM in music.
