Pros

Great people, job respect, rewarding to watch students' growth

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue listening to employees, try to cut back on mandatory trainings and let that time be used in the classroom

I have been working at Midland Independant SD

    Pros

-You get to work with children and make a difference in their lives
    -summers/holidays off
    -district matches 403b contribution
-decent classroom technology available (depending on campus)
-Superindentendant Ryder Warren is an excellent leader

    Cons

-insurance and any other benefits are very expensive
-teachers are very overworked and seem to have no power over decisions made in the classroom
-classroom decisions are made my higher administration who are never in the classrooms; oftentimes the decisions don't even make sense and/or do not benefit students
-the only thing that matters is standardized test scores and that's all that is taught in classrooms: how to pass TAKS
-students are over-pressured to pass the tests

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-offer individual teacher praise instead of a general "good job to everyone"
-allow teachers to make classroom decisions instead of micromanaging
-teach students how to think by providing meaningful learning, not "how to pass the test"

    Cons

The position I had was seasonal, so in the summer I would have a temp job else where.
