A soulless corporate entity where game concepts - and developers - go to die creatively

Pros

They pay a decent paycheck and you can get experience in game development which you might later be able to leverage to get a position with a real game developer.

Cons

They're a huge faceless publicly traded money-hungry company that cares nothing about the quality of their games except insomuch as it can drive sales. Their executive leadership knows too little about the realities of game development (at least historically), and the culture at the executive headquarters is unbelievably political and competitive. They pit the different internal projects against each other, forcing them to create throw-away work to make the game look more complete than it is, for a quarterly dog-and-pony show to the executives - and if your game looks less impressive than the other internal products, it might get canceled!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop letting the Marketing Department or the Executives have any say in the concepts or design for the projects that are chosen. Give developers creative freedom to pitch a number of projects that appeal to them, and make the decision of which to greenlight based on which ones show the most potential to be an exciting, high-quality, finish-able game - not on the basis of what will sell most to 13-23 year olds based solely on the amount of blood, titties, and bloody titties that can be fit onto the box.

I have been working at Midway Games

    Pros

There are amazing artists at Midway with great ideas and passion for their craft. The attitude is fun and relaxed.

    Cons

The projects have been watered down over the years by confused investing. The loss of major important artists has left a creative hole that is hard to fill.

    I worked at Midway Games

    Pros

It pays well depending on the hours you work, but overall, the experience is not worth the poor treatment and bad working conditions.

    Cons

Everything, from pay, hours, working conditions, environment, tasks, it's like a terrible experience. If you cannot land any job whatsoever, it would be better to just relax for the remainder of the summer.
