Minerals Technologies – “Change just to change is not good - slow down and make informed decisions”
Pros
The People - co-workers are friendly and some have become like family. Location- Bethlehem location is close to my home. Benefits - Although benefits have been reduced they still offer a good package. The new CEO has cleaned house and closed or is selling business units that were not profitable - this was needed to insure our continued success
Cons
New CEO, Joe Muscari has proven that the phrase "people are our most valuable asset" is not longer applicable to MTI. Downsizing has been taken to a dangerous level in the Bethlehem location in some departments. Concern is growing that MTI cannot sustain business at this level. Burnout is sure to occur and a mass exit of good employees is taking the knowledge base to low levels in some departments. Oursourcing is also being considered which is killing what morale is left.
Advice to Senior Management
If MTI doesn't staff adequately, keep the valuable knowledge base it has left and do something about morale, it won't matter what the salary budget is because we will not have resources to insure we remain competitive. Relying on a few managers to make decisions is dangerous because they are making uninformed decisions and we will all pay the price - those that stay anyway. Some managers are so busy trying to impress Senior Management that they are making changes just to say they are doing something without caring or understanding whether those changes are good for MTI or not. Morale is at an all time low - wake up!
