I worked at Minted full-time

Pros

- CEO is very forthcoming with financial information, and has a strong commitment to sharing information
- Management team is full of all-star e-commerce and printing executives who know what they're doing
- this company is growing fast and very smartly run with regard to the top and bottom lines.

Cons

- can't keep executives team members in the largest department (3 VPs have quit in 3 years, each after working for less than a year)
- don't offer health benefits to "temporary" employees who work year-round
- goals and metrics change half-way through the quarter, tanking your chance at performance incentives
- upper management is righteous about decisions, and inform staff who are negatively impacted that it is their job to "deal with it" - management won't take responsibility for their own (huge) mistakes
- incompetent staff are kept around to make it look like the company doesn't fire people
- if you are unlucky enough to work closely with one of those people, you have to be prepared to pick up their slack and "be a team player"
- most people work without job descriptions or valid offer letters
- "no really, this year we'll fix it" is something regularly heard...year after year after year, apparently
- CEO sends out corrective, shaming emails to people, copying large groups of people at the company, and also has no clue what's really happening in the company, therefore makes snap judgements to "fix" things that barely make a dent in the serious morale issues, and often times just make them worse
- at least one member of upper management has a track record of bullying employees
- entire teams are looking for new jobs, so turnover is about to go from bad to terrible

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember whose backs this company was built on, and treat them with grace and respect. Making people an afterthought has them divest, and that will be the downfall of this company - you won't fail because of sales, you will fail because no one will stick around to make sure that orders get fulfilled.

I have been working at Minted as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Cool company and great product. If you are young and enjoy design and don't mind doing production work, it is a nice job to have to for the holidays to earn some extra cash.

    Cons

Job gets really boring as you will be doing the same thing for the next few months. There isn't any room for advancement as a temp/seasonal employee (it was pretty sad and amusing to see some of the fellow temp employees "kissing up" to the full-time staff as if they were going to get hired for a position after the holidays). The scheduling was terrible as it was on-call and they didn't mention that prior to hiring.

Full time employees (especially from other depts) really need to get off their "high horse" like others have mentioned, they are standoffish. You can be sitting in the break room and you can just hear the sigh as they can't believe that you are taking their table for lunch and whispering to their co-worker.

Don't be surprised if your supervisor is younger than you or probably has less experience in the real world. They always say, "ask questions" if you aren't sure, but get fed up if you take up their time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Inform your seasonal workers about the schedule prior to hiring them. Create a more friendly environment.
