I worked at Mississippi State University full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Provides very good work balance for families. Excellent opportunity for career advancement if you are in research and development. Highly collaborative environment.

    Cons

Not great with compensation and benefits. Also the retirement plan needs to be upgraded. Senior management not so involved with of-campus research employees.

I have been working at Mississippi State University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Note that this review is made by a university staff member, not faculty. MSU allows employees to take up to 6 hours of continuing education each semester at no cost. The campus is beautiful, and the people are mostly very friendly. Full-time staff also receive a generous amount of vacation time. If you enjoy working with college students, MSU is an exciting place to live and work.

    Cons

The health insurance is good, but it is not the greatest. Opportunities for advancement can be limited depending on your department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to make efforts to retain staff talent by providing opportunities for advancement within positions and other benefits. Be flexible with changes in the way work gets done considering advances in technology.
