With everyone at the company chasing impossible targets, don't look for learning and growth here.

I worked at Mondelez International as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

You get to eat free junk food. Company store. They pay you. Interaction with a few seasoned people (not many)

    Cons

Culture not there as management only focused on delivering against targets. No structured talent management process. Most good people left and many amateur individuals have now taken the new positions. Take advantage of new grads/contractors with long, drawn out, contracts that don't pay fair rates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Plan your talent or you won't have any.

Great brands, some great people, some great processes. Short term focus. Very bureaucratic.

I worked at Mondelez International full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great brands that you're proud to work on.
    - Some excellent and committed people.
    - Freedom to drive change and some real room for an entrepreneurial approach (at least in Asia Pacific where I worked).
    - Big company resources for training etc, though you must drive the training process yourself.
    - Transitioning to a more global company, though it's early days so still overly focused on USA. Some lack of trust from Chicago for managers who have not worked in the USA. On balance the senior management team is attempting to become more global, but in reality this won't be achieved for 5+ years. However overall the direction and momentum is clear so I rate this a Pro.

    Cons

    - Old style, bureaucratic and extremely heirarchical culture.
    - Poor focus on return on capital.
    - Values and cultural goals are clearly articulated, but years away from being embedded - there are real barriers to achieving "Tell It How It Is" behaviour as senior management can be reluctant to hear about bad news.
    - Extreme short term focus from the Board and senior management; it's all about the quarterly number. Deliver your quarterly numbers and you're given a fairly free reign, but miss the targets and intervention from senior management is rapid and frequently results in replacement of the management team.
    - "Buy not build" approach to talent predominates. Training resources are available and can be of very good quality, but the balance is to find new talent rather than develop talent internally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Stop providing quarterly guidance to the Street - this is the root cause of management's excessive focus on quarterly numbers at the expense of longer term growth.
    2. Increase focus on achieving solid profitability and improving return on capital - the balance has swung too far toward "grow sales at any cost".
