I have been working at Monsanto Company full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Innovative work, fun co-workers, and an ever changing business landscape. The campus is also a nature area, so it is really nice during the spring, summer and fall. Some more well established managers have a wealth of information and willingness to share.

Cons

There are two classes of workers; those who do the work, and the managers who go to meetings and take credit for it. Those with skillsets marketable to other companies will find staying engaged at Monsanto a challenge. Employees must meet with managers before applying for jobs online so it makes tracking who is and isn't getting development difficult at best. Matrixed organization makes decision making a slow and tedious process. Job postings take forever to fill as HR is basically absent in the company and has little to no authority, no tracking on compliance in hiring pratices. Little to no diversity of people or ideas, though it looks like they would like to change that, if HR was more robust.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Empower HR, staff it and abide by the policies you create. Do real work to create a diverse workforce rather than fill out surveys for magazine to make it look like you are. Hold managers accountable in their DPR for developing their employees.

I have been working at Monsanto Company part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Most people at Monsanto care a great deal about their jobs and co-workers. It is generally a very welcoming company that values hard work and dedication.

    Cons

Movement and advancement throughout the company is fairly difficult depending on your background and what job functions you can perform. Some managers are much better than others at developing their teams and providing career advice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time getting to know the work styles and interests of your team members to better facilitate work load/projects.

Monsanto can be a great place but a lot depends on which group you are in and who your boss is.

    I worked at Monsanto Company

    Pros

Benefits are good though nothing special to the rest of the big players in the industry. In some groups you have a lot of autonomy. The ability to work from home when you need to for whatever reason can be a big plus.

    Cons

Salaries were not what they should have been but that might have since changed. Some of the leadership is less than forthright. Monsanto has an attitude that they are the best but a lot of farmers do not agree with that assessment. So a job working with farmers can sometimes be difficult because they are not fans of Monsanto.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    You are not special.
