I have been working at Monsanto Company full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Executive management is spot on, but new divisional management is a mess. People do not understand what Monsanto does or how they do it, but their intentions are good.

Cons

New management brought in from outside the company has no respect for the "legacy" employees or the Monsanto culture of forming relationships.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't bring in management from a company that was driven into bankruptcy and expect them to perform at any higher level of achievement or to higher ethical standards than what their history reflects.

Could be great, if not for their HR policies

I have been working at Monsanto Company full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Innovative work, fun co-workers, and an ever changing business landscape. The campus is also a nature area, so it is really nice during the spring, summer and fall. Some more well established managers have a wealth of information and willingness to share.

    Cons

There are two classes of workers; those who do the work, and the managers who go to meetings and take credit for it. Those with skillsets marketable to other companies will find staying engaged at Monsanto a challenge. Employees must meet with managers before applying for jobs online so it makes tracking who is and isn't getting development difficult at best. Matrixed organization makes decision making a slow and tedious process. Job postings take forever to fill as HR is basically absent in the company and has little to no authority, no tracking on compliance in hiring pratices. Little to no diversity of people or ideas, though it looks like they would like to change that, if HR was more robust.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Empower HR, staff it and abide by the policies you create. Do real work to create a diverse workforce rather than fill out surveys for magazine to make it look like you are. Hold managers accountable in their DPR for developing their employees.

I worked at Monsanto Company full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

In the science divisions at Monsanto you will work with world class researchers on interesting projects for commercialization. You will also work with many different disciplines on project teams. Great opportunities for development.

    Cons

Work does not shut off, e-mails will come all the time and all through the weekend. There is a very strong work ethic to get the job done there, but it makes it hard to take downtime and vacation time.
