I have been working at Monster Worldwide

Pros

Monster is great at giving time off with its 4 weeks PTO in the first year of service. It also is big into work life balance, you can work flexible hours and take off a lot with little to no notice.

It has a pool table in the cafeteria.

The walls are painted funky colors.

Cons

It is extremely political and unprofessional, and gossip at all levels is an understatement. To get at least some sort of respect, you need to know who to be friends with. It's not what you accomplish but who you know. There are many non performers who work here only because they are liked.

They will not hire without the approval of the CEO. Job security is at an all time low with all of the recent layoffs.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Empower and respect your employees. Hire good, motivated, professional employees to free up your time from micro managing and gossiping.

I have been working at Monster Worldwide

    Pros

Good benefits. Nice view from the 5th floor in Maynard.

    Cons

Strange culture of consistent pressure and time crunch where a lot of things go overlooked and unaddressed which fire back resulting into even more pressure and more mistakes. Do not expect things to be always fair and reasonable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The claim of being a people friendly place to work should be not just on paper. The culture of intimidation should yield to the culture of inspiration.

    I worked at Monster Worldwide

    Pros

They are few and far between, but there are some talented, ethical professionals working for the company. If you are beginning a career in online media it might be a good place to start.

    Cons

Bloated with unnecessary management roles and pervasive politics. The core-values are just a pretty picture on the lunch room wall. Widespread poaching of accounts by other reps of questional moral fiber. Manipulation of leads and account "books" by regional sales managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are a lot of holes in that sinking ship. You may be better served to plug them up with some of your unnecessary roles and return to your entrepreneurial roots or the continued market share loss to the likes of Craigslist and Twitter will help make that decision for you.
