Pros

Good benefits, technology, value of work to people's lives. Still a leading brand on the internet although innovations aren't getting traction they should.

Cons

Culture of fear, declining quality of upper management, long slide from hot internet startup spirit to slow, quarterly earnings culture. Constantly switching priorities; most initiatives take many layers of approval going to the top, where they sit for months. Recent new products promising but remains to be seen whether it's too late.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You were brought in to clean up the mess left by a few bad apples at the top. You did a good job cleaning it up but the tight corporate culture, and governing by fear, is driving away the best talent. Ruling by fear means you won't hear the criticism and suggestions you need to pull out of the long dive.

    Pros

Great benefits, good work-life balance, friendly atmosphere. Some very smart, talented people, too. And if you are the type who just wants to get by, they offer competitive salaries and are slow to lay off/fire underperformers.

    Cons

Lots of problems with leadership not understanding the business. In-fighting among management, competition between the divisions. Many among the leadership are clearly working for personal gain and not for the benefit of the business or employees. Slow to get things done. Management is scatterbrained, unclear about priorities, and inefficient about setting things in motion. Very low level of employee morale in the office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward concrete results instead of paying attention to those who like to market themselves and their team. Ignore what people are saying and ask them to prove what they have done.

    Pros

Monster is great at giving time off with its 4 weeks PTO in the first year of service. It also is big into work life balance, you can work flexible hours and take off a lot with little to no notice.

It has a pool table in the cafeteria.

The walls are painted funky colors.

    Cons

It is extremely political and unprofessional, and gossip at all levels is an understatement. To get at least some sort of respect, you need to know who to be friends with. It's not what you accomplish but who you know. There are many non performers who work here only because they are liked.

They will not hire without the approval of the CEO. Job security is at an all time low with all of the recent layoffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Empower and respect your employees. Hire good, motivated, professional employees to free up your time from micro managing and gossiping.
