I have been working at Montessori Academy of Chicago full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great opportunities for advancement, networking opportunities, treat employees well, wide variety of schedules to choose from, great benefits for full time employees including 401K with matching, school provides opportunities for assistants to apply for Montessori training, diverse staff, training days throughout the year to give more information on Montessori method to non-trained staff.

Cons

This is a new school so they are still working out the kinks and it is a very fast pace environment as the school is constantly expanding. Its hard not to get sick when you work around kids so expect to get sick very often your first year.

Stressful, tiring, but could be a good fit for the right kind of person who loves children

I worked at Montessori Academy of Chicago

    Pros

    Diverse and caring co-workers.
Good food available for lunch (organic).
Time off when school breaks in Summer and for Christmas.
Fun filled day caring for a diverse group of children.
Rewarding work for the right person.

    Cons

Very hard to form bonds with colleagues as there is next to no time to talk etc.
Very short lunch breaks (30 mins max).
Administration was very disorganised and communication between admin and employees was difficult. Often left wondering and had many questions that took forever to be answered.
Some children at the school for extremely long days; many children had behavioural issues.

I worked at Montessori Academy of Chicago part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Co Workers, many are the most interesting people you can meet, they have big hearts, come from diverse backgrounds, and generally are very positive people who handle stress very well

    Cons

The biggest problem faced is that the kids and parents tend to not really have much discipline, meaning that far too many classroom disruptions occur.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are a business and a school and hopefully with time will be able to be more rigorous in your selection criteria of families at the school, and have more disciplined parents who don't dump problem kids at the school.
