Current Employee - Software Engineer in New York, NY
Current Employee - Software Engineer in New York, NY

I have been working at Morgan Stanley full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Great software development platform for Java devs; pretty much everything you need is one Ivy-import away
    - IT is given respect in terms of their input on improving the running-the-bank functions

    Cons

    - There is always a tiresome communication gap between the business users (your customers as a software dev) and yourself
    - Seriously heavyweight middle-management; devs are often outnumbered (to the scale of 3:1, in the worst cases) by 'project managers' of some form or another projects
    - Bureaucracy, but this is a bank, so par for the industry course

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be a clearer communication line between the software devs and their customers: the business units.
