I have been working at Morgan Stanley

Pros

Great team to work for, wonderful people to work with, as well as tons of opportunities for professional growth if you can struggle through the boring stuff in the beginning.

Cons

Micromanagement can be a serious problem. Also, routine is always a killer. Also, sometimes I wish MS would eliminate a lot of overlapping managerial positions that it currently has because it sucks to be reporting to 15 layers of management on top of you.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less micromanagement, be a little bolder and, most importantly, stop copying everything from GS's model.

    I worked at Morgan Stanley

    Pros

Brand recognition, competitive salary and benefits, access to proprietary research and information, company database provides contact information and access to top employees, low-stress working envronment

    Cons

You are a number. Management saw new recruits at a burden, rather than an asset. was assigned menial tasks, and denied requests to take on projects, Financial Advisors are narrowly focused on their own business- minimal cooperation and social interaction in office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Negative attitude towards corporate office affects working environment. Corporate needs to implement better top-down approach to adress the concerns of Financial Advisors.

I have been working at Morgan Stanley

    Pros

Like going to a prestigious school, having Morgan on your resume can open doors.

    Cons

Pretty hard to get promoted here and not a lot of job growth. Think of it as a stepping stone to better things. For most people that's what to expect. It is also a very formal place, you need to watch how you act. Management is in it for itself, more so than at other companies I have worked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Positive performance reviews need to be followed by proper compensation. It looks strange if you promote folks to VP and lay them off the following year.
