Awful. Firm would not permit me to use my advanced financial skills trading billions per week in FX, or options/futures.

Former Employee - Financial Advisor
Former Employee - Financial Advisor

I worked at Morgan Stanley full-time for more than a year

Pros

Salary while training for basic Series 7, 66 etc.

Cons

My advanced skills were effectively thrown in the garbage, even after transferring my CTA registration to the firm. The local office of the firm wanted me to sell mutual funds, not permitted to talk to corporate treasurers like I used to do, or do any sophisticated financial transactions in FX, futures or options, EVEN FOR MY OWN ACCOUNT. DO NOT WORK in retail brokerage if you are a former bank trader of billions per week. Local office of firm also refused to transfer me to a more appropriate venue in New York which could use this skill set.

    Pros

    The salary. The research available.

    Cons

Unsupportive structure from the top down. Management has a "open door" policy which is really a get out of my office policy when you have a question. Disconnect among management and all other employees. No accountability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

MS training program consists of them licensing you and ends there. All other training is done on your own.
