I worked at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Great Education--paid by the company
Potiential to make lots of money (If that's what floats your boat)

Cons

You might not make lots of money.
If you get out early--to work in a BANK for instance--they will sue you--and probably win
You might make a mistake that could cost you $$ or your license

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit this job. Life is too short to spend it ripping people off.

I worked at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I was an employee of Citi Smith Barney from 2007 - 2010. The company was willing to invest in growing advisors and did their best to provide them with additional support.

    Cons

Even back in 2007, it was clear that the company was focusing on their million dollar producers. Those that didn't appear to have the growth potentional were encouraged to consolidate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall, I think management is taking the right approach to changing the corporate structure.

I have been working at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

More resources than regional brokerages. Lots of research and tools. The firm is revamping the FAA program to be more forgiving for new associates. Great name on the resume.

    Cons

The FAA program is a joke. Highly, highly political. If you don't have a senior advisor to help you make your numbers, start looking for a new job asap. You will either sink or swim. Failure rate is 90%.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wealth management is based on relationships in addition to numbers. Stop taking a McKinsey approach towards the business
