I have been working at Morrison & Foerster full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Training is top notch, compensation is excellent, and, as far as biglaw goes, work-life balance is pretty good. The firm is diverse, and works hard to develop and retain its associates. The quality of the work is interesting, especially as you rise in the ranks.

Cons

It is still biglaw, which requires certain sacrifices.

I have been working at Morrison & Foerster full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There are some great people who really live the value of collegiality that the firm promotes, and I have found on the staff side that I have a lot of leeway to try out innovative approaches.

    Cons

As is the case with many large organizations, lacks clarity of process in many situations, which can lead to confusion and inconsistent internal decisions.

Looks can be deceiving. Don't be fooled; it's just another Big Law firm.

I have been working at Morrison & Foerster full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Market pay. Diverse firm. Good colleagues. Good benefits.

    Cons

Staff is made to feel disposable. No work/life balance. Non existent training. Money is spent to make everyone on the outside think MoFo is a cut above the rest. "Everyone is a client" is preached; in practice, staff is just the hired help. Loyalty, hard work and dedication are not rewarded. Managers with very little departmental knowledge that know how to bully and intimidate have been put in place; they can talk the talk but can't walk the walk. They claim an open door policy to discuss issues; but the truth is, they really just think that your complaints are unfounded. They talk down to you and tell you why you are wrong for feeling how you feel. Every vocalized complaint just brings you one step closer to a pink slip.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start practicing what you preach. At one time, this was a great place to work and grow. Stop outsourcing. Moral is at an all time low, everyone is waiting to hear who is next. Value and reward the employees that perform; they may not all be timekeepers but they do have a direct impact on client satisfaction.
Or, just stop with the façade. Admit that you are just another Big Law Firm and you are only concerned with partner profits; everyone else be damned.
